Lyrics

This California life just ain’t working for me
It’s not really anywhere I really want to be
The mountains are brown, the people are so fake.
They’re all working hard to be something they ain’t.

Everywhere I go people all look so bored.
So they buy a fancy car they really can’t afford
They’ll spend their life on a freeway never going anywhere
The funny thing is nobody really seems to care.

Just give me those katydids and sweet tea on the front porch
I’ll drive the back-wood roads in my pickup, not a Porsche
I’ll take the Honkey Tonk Highway or Beal Street any day.
Some of Miss Polly’s fried chicken, Chess pie and I’m OK
Got this warm tranquil peace all coming over me.
Must be because I’m feeling Tennessee.

So I’m headed back east on Interstate 40
Put an end to this going nowhere west coast story.
Back to green rolling hills and lazy rivers a plenty
And people say hi, just to be country friendly
I’ll take a Vols game tailgate with friends all around me,
Or fishin’ with some beer sitting under that old tree.
Those California people don’t know what their missing,
Cause life over here is really worth living.
